St. George Slava in Lorain
May 7th was a special and blessed day for all the parishioners of Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church in Lorain, OH. Services began with Matins served by parish pastor Rev. Father Sinisa Hrvacevic. With the blessing of His Grace Rt. Rev. Bishop Irinej, Fr. Sinisa was joined in Holy Liturgy by neighboring priest Archimandrite Leontije (Alavanja), abbot of St. Marks Monastery in Sheffield Village, OH. who officiated in the name of His Grace and Rev. Deacon Edward Kolinda, from the neighboring OCA parish of Sts. Peter and Paul. Liturgy was truly Divine with the presence of many faithful from St. George's family joined in prayers by faithful Orthodox from both Sts. Peter and Paul and St. Mark's parishes.

After the Gospel reading Fr. Sinisa offered an inspiring sermon, talking about what slava means to us and how the life and martyrdom of St. George sets the Holy and perfect example for all of us. Fr. Sinisa further offered how the Great-Martyr and Trophy-Bearer George gave up earthly possessions and received Heavenly Glory ("Slava"), from the Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ.

At the end of service father thanked Fr. Leontije and Dn. Edward, expressig his joy at their presence for the parish Slava. On behalf of all, he also offered thanksgving to His Grace Bishop Irinej, who gave asked Fr. Leontije to represent him to the community that day, and for offering his blessing to allow Dn. Edward to serve.

The Christian gathering was continued in the social hall downstairs, where a delicious meal was prepared by the KSS and was served to all those present.  Many special guests were present, including Fr. Dmitri from St. Mary's Ukrainian parish and Fr. Paul and his wife from Sts. Cyril and Methodius OCA parish. The Russian orchestra "Raz, Dva, Tri" entertained those gathered, making the event special for all.

This year's kumovi were Petko Bunjevac and Michael Kowalczyk, and High School graduating senior Mila Zunich was honored with a Holy Bible as a present from her parish family to lead her in life and guide her in future successes.

This was truly great and special day for all who gathered to continually celebrate not just their patron saint but The Resurrection of our Lord!
