St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in McKeesport-Duquesne, PA, recently embarked on a momentous chapter in its history, officially kicking off its 125th-anniversary year. The launch of this historic milestone was marked by a truly remarkable and beautiful choir concert that brought the community together in celebration on Sunday, May 3, 2026. The success of this special event was made possible through the unwavering dedication of St. Sava’s Choir Director, Nicholas Medich, whose hard work, musical vision, and leadership were instrumental in setting a joyful tone for the year ahead.
The concert was a powerful testament to the strong bonds of the regional Orthodox community, enriched by the collaborative participation of visiting choirs. St. Sava was deeply honored to share this special day with singers from neighboring parishes, welcoming the choirs of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church (Aliquippa, PA), Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Cathedral (Pittsburgh, PA), and St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church (Monroeville, PA). The beautiful blending of these voices highlighted a spirit of unity and shared faith. The church extends its most profound gratitude to all the guest singers, the many attendees who came to support the event, and the wonderful volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the day a resounding success.
During the festivities, Parish Priest Proto Stevan "Stevo" Rocknage addressed the congregation, joyfully reflecting on how deeply blessed the St. Sava church family truly is. He expressed his immense excitement for the coming year, emphasizing that it will be a dedicated time to express their rich Serbian heritage, their steadfast faith in Christ, and the loving history of their parish community. Proto Stevo's message was not just one of reflection, but of forward-looking hope, inspiring the parish to continue building upon this strong, 125-year foundation for many generations to come.
As the St. Sava community looks toward the future, the excitement of this kickoff will continue to build throughout the year. Proto Stevo announced that the yearlong festivities will culminate in a joyous and grand gathering this coming November (Nov. 6th-7th), which will serve as the official commemoration of the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church’s 125-year legacy in the McKeesport-Duquesne, Pennsylvania area. As they celebrate this monumental milestone and look forward to the future, the church offers a heartfelt prayer and wish for all: "Mnogaja Ljeta" - may God grant you many blessed years!
