On Saturday, May 3, the faithful of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church gathered in great joy and prayer to celebrate several blessed occasions in the life of the parish community.
Parishioners from near and far welcomed His Grace, Bishop Irinej of Washington–New York and Eastern America, who presided over the celebration of the parish Slava of St. George. The Divine Liturgy and festal gathering brought together clergy, faithful, and guests in a spirit of unity and thanksgiving. Concelebrating with His Grace were Father German Ciuba, Father Vjekoslav Jovicic, Deacon Daniel August, and Father Vedran Grabic. They were joined by many altar servers led by Mr. Bosko Vucenovic and Mr. John Buffalini.
This year’s honored Kum was Simeon Black, a faithful member and benefactor of the parish. The community expresses its heartfelt gratitude for his love and dedication to the Church, praying that the Lord grant him many blessed years.
The day’s celebrations continued with the Holy Baptism of Lidija Grabic, the third child of Father Vedran and Popadija Svetlana Grabic. Lidija is named in honor of Saint Lydia of Thyatira, the first European convert to Christianity mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles, remembered for her faith, hospitality, and devotion to Christ. Her godparents are Father Vjekoslav and Popadija Dragana Jovicic. May the Lord grant them many years as they guide their goddaughter in the Orthodox faith.
Following the Divine Services, His Grace blessed the parish’s newly installed mosaic of St. George. The beautiful mosaic was created at the Monastery of the Resurrection in Kać, Serbia, and now adorns the church as a lasting witness of faith and devotion. The parish extends sincere thanks to all those who contributed to the creation, transportation, and installation of this sacred work.
The entire service was prayerful and beautiful, made especially uplifting through the responses of the parish choir led by Reader Stephen Petrochko.
Following the celebrations, a joyful luncheon prepared by the parishioners was shared by all in attendance, reflecting the love and fellowship of the St. George community.
May God grant many years to the parish of St. George, to all who gathered for these celebrations, and especially to the newly baptized servant of God, Lidija.
