On May 13, in the Monastery of Mrkonjići Monastery, the first liturgical commemoration and the anniversary of the inscription of Saint Blessed Anna, the mother of Saint Basil of Ostrog and Tvrdoš, into the Diptychs of Saints of the Orthodox Church, was solemnly celebrated.

The Holy Hierarchical Liturgy, served beside her holy relics, was presided over by Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Kyr Joanikije, concelebrating with Their Eminences: Archbishop and Metropolitan of Budimlje and Nikšić Kyr Metodije, Archbishop of Los Angeles and Western America Maksim, and Archbishop of Mostar-Trebinje and Metropolitan of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and the Littoral Kyr Dimitrije; as well as Their Graces: Bishop of Washington-New York and Eastern America Kyr Irinej, and Bishop of Dioklia Kyr Paisije, together with numerous clergy and monastics, in the prayerful presence of the faithful people.

The icon of Saint Blessed Anna was brought in procession by the sisters of the monasteries of Žiča Monastery and Ždrebaonik Monastery into the monastery church dedicated to Saint Basil of Tvrdoš and Ostrog. The decree of the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church concerning the inclusion of Blessed Anna, mother of Saint Basil of Tvrdoš and Ostrog, among the saints, was read by Archimandrite Vasilije, abbot of Zavala Monastery.

In his liturgical homily, Archbishop Maksim emphasized that during these May days, Herzegovina breathes and is fragrant with stone, flowers, and its herbs, and radiates Paschal joy, while today we live and bear witness to a mystery—the mystery of a mother. “Five centuries have passed, yet the Lord sends His messages, and they arrive when we awaken ourselves to receive them; and so it has happened also with the commemoration of Saint Blessed Anna,” said Archbishop Maksim, as reported by Trebinje Live.

After Holy Communion, His Grace Bishop Irinej performed the blessing of the festal bread (slavski kolač) and wheat, after which the blessing of the new monastery residence (konak) was performed by His Eminence Metropolitan Metodije.

The gathered faithful were first addressed by Metropolitan Dimitrije, and then by Metropolitan Joanikije, to whom Metropolitan Dimitrije presented an icon of Saint Anna as a sign of gratitude. Metropolitan Joanikije emphasized that the canonization of the mother of Saint Basil of Ostrog in our own time comes as a fulfillment and a great joy. “We see that all of this does not occur without a visible sign. This monastery is being built here, this spiritual center, and everything shines forth. Naturally, we expect that this place will gain even greater significance through the blessing of Saint Basil, especially because the holy relics of Saint Anna will repose here. May it be with God’s blessing,” said Metropolitan Joanikije, who also thanked Metropolitan Dimitrije for his kindness, love and communion.

The Divine Service in Mrkonjići Monastery was attended by Mirko Ćurić, Mayor of Trebinje, and numerous representatives of the political, public, and cultural life of Trebinje, Herzegovina, and Republika Srpska, among them Milorad Dodik and Maja Gojković, President of the  Provincial Government of the Province of Vojvodina with associates.

of the Saint Blessed Anna, mother of Saint Basil of Ostrog and Tvrdoš, to the great joy and blessing Orthodox people of Herzegovina as well as all Orthodoxy, was canonized at the Assembly of the Serbian Orthodox Church in May 2025, and May 13 was designated as the day of her feast.

У манастиру Мркоњићи 13. маја, свечано је прослављен први литургијски спомен и годишњица од уношења Свете и блажене Ане, мајке Светог Василија Острошког и Тврдошког, у Диптихе светих Православне цркве.

Светом архијерејском литургијом, поред њених светих моштију, началствовао је Његово високопреосвештенство Архиепископ цетињски и Митрополит црногорско-приморски г. Јоаникије уз саслужење високопреосвећене господе: Архиепископа и Митрополита будимљанско-никшићког Методија, Архиепископа лосанђелеског и западноамеричког Максима и Архиепископа мостарско-требињског и Митрополита захумско-херцеговачког и стонско-приморског Димитрија, преосвећене господе епископа: вашингтонско-њујоршког и источноамеричког Иринеја и диоклијског Пајсија, бројног свештенства и свештеномонаштва, у молитвеном присуству верног народа.

Икону Свете блажене Ане, у манастирски Храм Светог Василија Тврдошког и Острошког, литијски са свима вернима унеле су сестре манастира Жиче и Ждребаоника, док је грамату Светог архијерејског сабора Српске православне цркве о прибрајању сабору Светих мајке Светог Василија Тврдошког и Острошког, блажене Ане, прочитао архимандрит Василије, игуман манастира Завала.

У литургијској  беседи Владика Максим је истакао да и ове мајске дане Херцеговина дише и мирише каменом, цвећем, својим травама и одише пасхалном радошћу, а да ми данас живимо и сведочимо једну тајну – тајну мајке. „Пет вијекова је протекло, али Господ шаље своје поруке и оне стижу онда када се ми за њих разбудимо, па се то десило и са споменом Свете блажене Ане“, поручио је Архиепископ лосанђелески и западноамерички Максим, извештава Trebinje Live.

Након причешћа, Преосвећени Епископ Иринеј извршио је освећење славског колача и жита, а затим је освећење новог конака извршио Високопреосвећени Митрополит Методије.

Сабраном народу најпре се обратио Митрополит Димитрије, а затим и Митрополит Јоаникије, којем је Владика Димитрије у знак захвалности уручио икону Свете Ане. Митрополит Јоаникије је истакао да канонизација мајке Светог Василија Острошког у нашем времену долази као пуноћа и велика радост. „Видимо да то све није без неког видљивога знака. Овај манастир се овдје подиже, овај духовни центар и све засија и наравно, очекујемо да ће и ово место добити још већи значај благословом Светога Василија, а посебно зато што ће овдје почивати свете мошти Свете Ане. Нека буде са Божијим благословом“, навео је Архиепископ цетињски Митрополит црногорско-приморски г. Јоаникије и захвалио Владици Димитрију на доброти, љубави и сабрању.

Светој служби Божијој у Мркоњићима присуствовали су градоначелник Требиња Мирко Ћурић и бројни представници политичког, јавног и културног живота Требиња, Херцеговине и РС, међу којима и лидер СНСД-а Милорад Додик и председник Покрајинске владе Војводине Маја Гојковић са сарадницима.

Света блажена Ана, мајка Светог Василија Острошког и Тврдошког, на велику радост и благодат православног народа Херцеговине, али и васколиког православља, канонизована је на Сабору СПЦ у мају 2025. године, а за дан њеног празновања је одређен 13. мај.
