THE THIRD WEEK OF ST. SAVA CAMP AT SHADELAND

The third week of St. Sava Camp at Shadeland brought another wonderful week filled with joy, laughter and lasting memories. Campers embraced each day with enthusiasm as they enjoyed faith-filled learning, outdoor adventures and time spent with friends.

Religious instruction once again provided meaningful opportunities for the children to grow in their faith through lively discussions and thoughtful participation, led by Fr. Srebrenko Vidakovic, Fr. Sreten Stanojevic, and Fr. Mirko Tomasevic. During arts and crafts, the campers created beautiful wall hangings featuring the beloved Shadeland Tree, giving each child a special keepsake to remember the week.

Afternoons were spent making the most of summer at Shadeland. Campers enjoyed boating, swimming and fishing on the lake, while a new favorite activity—GaGa Ball—quickly became a hit. This fast-paced game, played in an enclosed pit where players use their hands to strike the ball while trying to avoid being hit below the knees, kept campers laughing, cheering and eager for another round.

Of course, two of the week's most anticipated traditions, bowling and a trip to Waldameer, once again proved to be fan favorites and did not disappoint. These outings continue to be highlights of the Shadeland experience and are always enjoyed by campers and counselors alike.

On Friday, the camp was blessed to welcome His Grace Bishop Irinej. Everyone was delighted that His Grace was able to spend the day with the campers. During his visit, he spoke to the children about the beautiful new frescoes recently painted in the back of the monastery church by Fr. George Popovich of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church in Aliquippa along with his iconography students.

As always, the week came to an end far too quickly. Saturday brought heartfelt goodbyes, hugs and promises to see one another again next year. Week Three was another reminder that the friendships, faith and memories made at St. Sava Camp will remain with the campers long after summer has ended.
