CELEBRATION OF THE SYNAXIS OF SERBIAN SAINTS IN BIDDEFORD
The Parish of the Synaxis of Serbian Saints at the St. Demetrius Church in Biddeford, Maine, solemnly celebrated its Patronal Feast Day - Slava on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
The festive gathering began with the Holy Hierarchical Liturgy, served by His Grace Bishop Irinej of Washington-New York and Eastern America and Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Ivan Marjanović, with the prayerful participation of numerous parishioners.
In his archpastoral sermon, Bishop Irinej spoke about love as the foundation of Christian life, recalling Christ's words on love for God and neighbor. Emphasizing that God is love, the Bishop stressed that through love for one's neighbors, a person draws closer to God, while highlighting the importance of mutual love, harmony, and unity in the life of the Church.
At the end of the Holy Liturgy, the rite of blessing and cutting of the Festal Bread (Slavski kolač) was performed, with a large number of gathered children participating. The sponsors (Kumovi) of this year’s Slava were Miljan and Jelena Simić with their family, who also prepared a festive Slava luncheon for all present. The sponsorship (Kumstvo) for the coming year was accepted by Milen and Jasmina Krsmanović with their family.
Following the cutting of the Slava bread, a Prayer Service (Moleben) was held for students on the occasion of the start of the new school year. Bishop Irinej offered prayers for all students and youth, asking the Lord to grant them wisdom, strength and success in their studies, to protect and guide them on their life's journey, and to grant them every blessing.
The festive celebration continued with a shared Agape - Slava luncheon and fellowship among parishioners.
ПРОСЛАВА САБОРА СРПСКИХ СВЕТИТЕЉА У БИДЕФОРДУ
Парохија Сабора српских светитеља при храму Св. Великомученика Димитрија у Бидефорду, у Мејну, свечано је у недељу, 13. септембра 2026. године, прославила своју парохијску славу.
Празнично сабрање започело је Светом Архијерејском Литургијом, коју су служили Његово Преосвештенство Епископ вашингтонско-њујоршки и источноамерички г. Иринеј и протојереј-ставрофор Иван Марјановић, уз молитвено учешће бројних парохијана.
У својој архипастирској беседи, Владика Иринеј је говорио о љубави као темељу хришћанског живота, подсетивши на Христове речи о љубави према Богу и ближњем. Истичући да је Бог љубав, Владика је нагласио да се кроз љубав према ближњима човек приближава Богу, те указао на значај међусобне љубави, слоге и заједништва у животу Цркве.
На крају Свете Литургије обављен је чин освећења и резања славског колача, у којем је учествовао велики број окупљене деце. Кумови овогодишње славе били су Миљан и Јелена Симић са породицом, који су припремили и славски ручак за све присутне. Кумство за наредну годину преузели су Милен и Јасмина Крсмановић са породицом.
Након резања славског колача, служен је и молебан за ученике поводом почетка нове школске године. Епископ Иринеј се помолио за све ђаке и омладину, молећи Господа да им подари мудрост, снагу и успех у учењу, да их чува и руководи на њиховом животном путу и да им подари свако добро.
Празнично сабрање настављено је заједничким славским ручком и дружењем парохијанa.
