10th Sunday after Pentecost: A Turning Point

ELIZABETH - On August 25, 2019, the 10th Sunday after Pentecost, His Grace Bishop Irinej celebrated the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy in the parish church of Saint George in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Joining their Hierarch in concelebration of the Liturgy were Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Zoran Radovic, together with Protodeacon Milos Zdralic and Deacon Djordje Tomic. Chanting the responses to the Liturgy were Reader Milovan Jovanovic, Srdjan Maksimovic, Protinica Vesna Radovic and Predrag Simic.

During his homily, Bishop Irinej explained how the appointed Gospel lection for this Sunday represents a turning point, wherein Christ, in order to help us turn our trust into faith, and our faith into knowledge, from this point on speaks in parables. Our spiritual maturity is tested so that we will, as the Apostles, be able to comprehend the direct message of our salvation at Christ’s Passion and confirm it in His Resurrection.

The presence of so many children at Liturgy and receiving Holy Communion brought great joy to everyone, “for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Mt. 10:14, Lk. 18:16).
