NAPLES, FL – Sunday, August 25, 2024 - For the first time in nearly two years, the Meeting of Our Lord Serbian Orthodox Mission Church in Naples, Florida, celebrated the Divine Liturgy with their full-time priest Rev. Vladislav Golic. The large gathering of faithful in attendance was a direct reflection of the joy felt within the community.
“It was heartwarming to see so many young children,” said Kim Slepcevich, wife of Board of Trustees President William Slepcevich.
Prior to the beginning of the service, Father Vladislav instructed the youth on how they would be a part of the service, and they happily participated carrying icons in processions led by Reader Michael McDonald. Responses were sung by Popadija Sara, assisted by their sons Natan and Amos.
Throughout the morning there was a prevailing feeling of promise in the air. At the conclusion of services and announcements, most of those present remained for a delightful Lenten luncheon provided by the Circle of Serbian Sisters during which everyone had an opportunity to speak with their new priest and with each other. Contact information was exchanged and plans were formed.
Father Vladislav announced that a blessing of the children for the school year will take place on Sunday, September 1 st . He encourages all parents to bring their children to church next week.
Meeting of the Lord Serbian Orthodox Mission Church had their fledgling beginnings in November 2022. The group received their official charter in February 2024 with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Irinej. Rev. Milan Jovanovic served the parish on a part-time basis through July 2024, after which Father Vladislav was assigned permanently.
Services take place at the Naples Park Area Association facility at 654 104 th Avenue in North Naples on Sundays at 10am. They currently have 57 dues-paying families and hundreds of others who attend during the winter season.
