SHADELAND CAMP 2026: WEEK 1

Shadeland Camp 2026 began on the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, as campers arrived around noon to begin a week filled with faith, fellowship, friendship and fun. The Rooted in Shadeland group welcomed campers by serving lunch, and the excitement was evident as another camp season got underway.

This year, Nessa Wright and Luke Torbic lead an energetic group of college counselors: Dara Barach, Sara Topich, Maria Janiga, Jelena Dragovich, Anastasija Vukalo, Daniela Radulovich, Milana Winowich, Nikko Baskot and Philip Malich. Throughout the week, the counselors led activities with energy and enthusiasm while working diligently to keep all of the campers safe and engaged. Fr. Rodney Torbic, Fr. Branislav Golic and Fr. Djordje Tomic led the campers each day in religious instruction and morning and evening prayers. We are thankful for their guidance and wisdom each day.

The lake was particularly popular this year. Campers enjoyed boating, paddleboarding and fishing—and, of course, more than a few unexpected trips into the water! As an added bonus this year, our caretaker, Keith, brought the fire truck from Springboro. He pumped water from the lake and created a fountain for all the kids. The hot weather made time at the lake especially welcome.

Although the week brought extreme heat and smoke from wildfires affected the air quality toward the end of camp, the campers and counselors did not let the conditions dampen their spirits. The counselors creatively organized a variety of indoor activities to keep everyone entertained and enjoying the week together.

His Grace Bishop Irinej visited on Friday and held religious instruction with the campers. Everyone was grateful for His Grace's visit and always appreciates the opportunity to welcome him to Shadeland when his schedule allows.

The popular camp dance returned to the A Building to close out the week, providing a joyful final evening of music, laughter and memories.

Then, all too soon, Saturday arrived. The week came to an end with hugs, tears and promises to return again next year. Shadeland Camp is a wonderful reminder of the joy found in coming together as a community of faith—and of the friendships and memories that make camp so special.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Shadeland next year!
