Honorary Associate Member Father Rodney Torbic is one of the UMWA's most steadfast supporters. He has been praying for the membership and leadership of our union for years, has attended rallies, memorial services and special events.
"Appalachia has a storied history of industrial greatness. Coal mining is intrinsic to that greatness," said Father Torbic. "Coal has fueled the mills. and power plants moving the nation forward, and Appalachia has a duty to honor the work and work-related death of miners.
"Great benefits have occurred in Appalachia and beyond due to the toil of miners. Demonstrated gratitude to living and miners departed this life has a place in the Appalachian conscious-ness and expression of gratitude," said Father Torbic of the UMWA's annual Robena Memorial service.
In April, 2024, Father Torbic was inducted into the Washington/Greene Labor Council Hall of Fame. He continues to pray for the health and wellbeing of the leadership and membership of the UMWA. The union is blessed to have the strength and support of Father Torbic.
